What types of rock art can be found in Tsodilo Hills?
It features depictions of animals (over 50%), geometric shapes (about 30%), and human figures (approximately 10%). These paintings are thought to portray scenes witnessed by ancient inhabitants. Interestingly, despite Botswana's inland location, some portray whales, sparking speculation about connections to Namibia or a submerged past.

Botswana Expert
How did 'Baines' Baobab' get its name?
In the 1850s, Thomas Baines, an explorer and war artist, shifted his focus to naturalism. While journeying from Namibia to Victoria Falls in 1862, he sought refuge under a baobab tree, which was later named "Baines' Baobab" in his honor. His name carved into the tree and watercolor paintings from that era are now preserved in the UK.

Botswana Expert
Are the Bushmen considered indigenous?
The Bushmen, also known as the San or Basarwa, are indeed the indigenous people of southern Africa. Botswana is home to the largest population of Bushmen, whose descendants carry forward their survival techniques and cultural heritage. Despite the seemingly barren landscape, exploring the bush with the Bushmen unveils its hidden wonders, offering a truly mystical experience.

Botswana Expert
How many people can ride in a Mokoro Boat?
Typically, a Mokoro Boat accommodates three individuals: one poler and two passengers. This configuration ensures a safe balance, with the poler navigating from the rear while the front passenger enjoys an uninterrupted view of the Delta's scenery. While villagers often ferry substantial cargo, the capacity of three passengers ensures safety.
